International Postage Optional Settings

The following options are those currently available. More information may be available on the Australia Post MyPost Business web site at https://auspost.com.au/mypost-business/dashboard#/support

Please note that some options are not available on all international services and may result in an error if they are enabled on services where it is not a feature. If that occurs you can change the setting on the options for that specific order.

International Sender Digital Signature

As of 14 March 2024 this field is no longer used. This field is now populated automatically by Australia Post using the value set in the 'Name' field in the PREFERENCES tab.

Require Signature on Delivery

If set to "Required" the recipient of the parcel will need to sign for delivery. If the recipient is not available a card will be left at the premises to advise the recipient to collect the parcel from a local post office.

If set to "Not Required" and the recipient is unavailable the parcel will be left in a safe place at the premises. If no safe place is available a card will be left at the premises to advise the recipient to collect the parcel from a local post office

Goods Description

By default product titles are used on Customs Declarations. You can override the use of product titles by providing a Goods Description. If used you must ensure that this description is sufficient for Customs to identify the contents of the package and does not misrepresent the goods. By using a Goods Description no individual item data will be declared on Customs Declarations, so, while this option is available it is rarely required.

Orders shipped to the EU require individual item titles, country of origin and HS Tariff Codes so this option should not be used for EU shipments to ensure consignments are not returned.

Email Tracking Notifications

This option determines whether tracking notifications are emailed to the recipient.

Note: Not available on all international services.

SMS Tracking Notifications

With SMS tracking enabled you will receive an SMS notification when your parcel:

  • Is sent overseas by Australia Post

  • Has arrived in the destination country

  • Is delivered

A valid Australian mobile phone number must be supplied on the Preferences -> Sender Address page.

Note: Not available on all international services.

Classification Type

This identifies the reason for the shipment in the Customs Declaration. Except in rare circumstances this will usually be "Sale of Goods".

Reason for export

If the "Classification Type" above is set to "Other" you need to specify the reason for the export. This option is rarely required.

Extra Cover

For more information about Australia Post's Extra Cover see their guide at https://auspost.com.au/sending/send-overseas/features-extras-international

Non Delivery Action

This option determines what action is taken if an international consignment is unable to be delivered. If you want the goods returned to you (note Australia Post charges may apply to returns) select "Return". For low value items where the cost of returning the consignment may exceed the value of the goods you can choose "Abandoned" which means the order will be destroyed.

Certificate Number

Some countries may require additional information such as a Certificate Number for certain products. For more information about specific countries see https://auspost.com.au/sending/send-overseas/international-post-guide

Licence Number

Some countries may require additional information such as a Licence Number for certain products. For more information about specific countries see https://auspost.com.au/sending/send-overseas/international-post-guide

Country of Origin

For some countries specifying a "Country of Origin" of the goods may help streamline the import process and impact fees such as import duties. You can specify a default Country of Origin which will be applied to all products in an order where a Country of Origin hasn't been specified in your store..

This option should only be used as a backup for failing to enter data in your store. In the first instance you should ensure that all of your products have a Country of Origin specified.

HS Tariff Code

For some countries specifying a "HS Tariff Code" for the goods may help streamline the import process and impact fees such as import duties. You can specify a default HS Tariff Code which will be applied to all products in an order where a HS Tariff Code hasn't been specified in your store.

This option should only be used as a backup for failing to enter data in your store. In the first instance you should ensure that all of your products have a HS Tariff Code specified.

If there are more than 20 items in an order the HS Tariff Code should be entered in the Order Options section of the individual order.

Declare Item Weights

When creating international consignments individual weights of items in an order can be submitted. Accurate weights can help streamline progress through customs in the destination country. Weights used are those specified in Shopify for each product. If no weight is specified an error will occur during the consignment creation process.

CAUTION: By disabling this option no individual item weights will be declared when creating a consignment. This may cause delays or returns of consignments in some countries.
