About landed costs
When creating an international shipment using eParcel Contract or MyPost Business, you may need to specify who will pay any applicable import duties, taxes and postal service fees (also known as landed costs).
SellerDash supports all Australia Post landed cost options and will automatically apply the correct option where required.
Available options
SellerDash supports all landed cost options provided by Australia Post. However, not every option is available for every destination country.
Receiver Pays – The recipient pays any applicable duties, taxes and fees before delivery.
Sender Pays (Zonos® Verified Account) – Duties, taxes and fees are calculated, collected and remitted through your linked Zonos® Verified Account.
Sender Pays (Tax ID) – Duties and/or taxes are remitted using your own registered Tax ID, such as an IOSS or VAT registration.
⚠️ Important: Where a country requires a specific landed cost method, SellerDash will automatically select the required option.
Receiver Pays
Receiver Pays is the default option for most international destinations.
The United States is the exception, as all shipments to the US must use Sender Pays (Zonos® Verified Account). SellerDash will automatically select this for all orders shipping to the US.
How Receiver Pays works
When using Receiver Pays:
Do not collect duties, taxes or other landed costs from your customer during checkout.
Customs authorities in the destination country calculate any applicable charges.
Your customer must pay these charges before their parcel can be delivered.
How Receiver Pays works in SellerDash
No additional setup is required for shipments using Receiver Pays.
If you have not entered any Tax IDs in the International Options section of your Preferences page in SellerDash, international shipments will automatically use Receiver Pays for all supported destinations, except the United States.
Sender Pays (Zonos® Verified Account)
This option allows duties, taxes and fees to be prepaid before the parcel reaches the destination country.
This option is:
The mandatory default for shipments to the United States.
Available for other supported destinations including:
Canada
United Kingdom
To use this option, your Australia Post account must be linked to a Zonos® Verified Account.
If you already use a Zonos® Verified Account for shipping to the United States, you can use the same account for other supported destinations.
⚠️ Important: If your Australia Post account is not linked to a Zonos® Verified Account when one is required, the shipment may be rejected by customs and returned.
When using Sender Pays (Zonos® Verified Account)
Collect all applicable duties, taxes and fees from your customer during checkout.
Zonos® calculates and remits the applicable landed costs on your behalf.
Zonos® invoices you directly for the landed costs and any applicable service fees.
The Importer Reference Number or Customs Reference field is automatically populated.
To use your Zonos® Verified Account when creating labels in SellerDash, enter ZONOS into the Tax ID field for the applicable country in the International Options section of your Preferences page.
⚠️ Important: There is no Tax ID field for the United States, as Sender Pays (Zonos® Verified Account) is the mandatory and only supported option.
For assistance with your Zonos® account or billing, please contact Zonos® Support directly at [email protected].
Sender Pays (Tax ID)
This option is used when you have your own tax registration in the destination country and have saved the relevant registration number in the International Options section of your Preferences page.
Supported tax registrations include:
IOSS (European Union)
UK VAT (United Kingdom)
NO VOEC (Norway)
Your shipment must meet the requirements for the applicable registration.
When using Sender Pays (Tax ID)
Collect all applicable duties and/or taxes from your customer during checkout.
Enter your Tax ID in the appropriate field in the International Options section of your Preferences page.
SellerDash will automatically submit your shipment using Sender Pays (Tax ID).
Your Tax ID is transmitted electronically with the shipment for customs processing.
⚠️ Important: If the order value exceeds Australia Post's supported threshold for that Tax ID, label creation will fail. If this occurs, you should delete the Import Reference Number in the Order Options of the order and submit again.
For advice about tax registrations or obligations, please contact your tax adviser.
⚠️ Important information
Receiver Pays
Receiver Pays is the default option for all supported destinations except the United States.
Only use this option if your customer will pay any applicable import duties, taxes and fees when the shipment arrives.
Sender Pays
If you collect duties or taxes from your customer during checkout, you must use an appropriate Sender Pays method by either:
linking a Zonos® Verified Account, or
entering the relevant Tax ID in the International Options section of your Preferences page.
You cannot mix payment methods:
You cannot combine Sender Pays and Receiver Pays for the same shipment.
If using Sender Pays, collect all applicable landed costs during checkout.
If using Receiver Pays, do not collect any duties or taxes during checkout.
Country requirements
Some destinations require a specific landed cost method and do not allow alternative options. SellerDash will automatically apply the required method where applicable.
NZ GST (New Zealand)
Whilst SellerDash can submit your NZ GST registration number if provided, there is no Sender Pays option for New Zealand. All shipments to New Zealand will automatically be submitted as Receiver Pays.
Using the wrong landed cost option may result in customs delays, additional charges or returned shipments.
