Shipping to the European Union (EU)

When shipping goods to the European Union, all items must be classified using the Combined Nomenclature (CN) system.

The CN system is based on the global 6-digit Harmonised System (HS) code, with an additional 2 digits added by the EU to create a unique 8-digit tariff code. This 8-digit CN code is mandatory for all shipments entering any EU country.

To find the correct EU tariff code, you can use the TARIC database, the EU’s official tariff lookup system. By entering your standard 6-digit HS code, TARIC will help you identify the corresponding EU-compliant code.

How to use TARIC:

  1. Enter your 6-digit HS Tariff Code into the Goods Code field

  2. Select the Country of Origin from the dropdown

  3. Click “Retrieve Measures”

The results will display possible matches, typically highlighted at the bottom of the page. You are responsible for selecting the code that best matches your product.

Important Customs Requirements

Providing accurate and detailed information is essential for smooth customs clearance:

  • Goods Description: Must be clear and specific. Vague descriptions can result in delays or rejection—even if the tariff code is correct.

  • Tariff Code: Ensure the correct 8-digit EU CN code is used

  • Item Weights: Include individual weights for each item

  • Pricing: Declare accurate prices that match the customer’s invoice

Failure to provide complete and accurate information will lead to customs delays and returned shipments.
